This Scholarship was set up in 2024 in memory of Brian Simpson (Ngāti Awa, Te Whānau ā Apanui), a student of Te Kura o Tipene from 1960 to 1962. The daughters (Simpson Whānau) of Brian Simpson fund the Scholarship.
Dad instilled in us that we could achieve anything we wanted through perseverance, diligence, and belief in ourselves. Dad always supported our education, sporting, and cultural endeavours, right through to our professional careers. Dad also encouraged his mokopuna to choose their own path, and strive for excellence in everything they did.
Attending Te Kura o Tipene gave an unparalleled opportunity for Dad to aspire, achieve and shape his sporting and personal activities, and professional career. At the forefront of everything Dad did, was the advancement of his whānau, hapū, Iwi and Māori.
We hope this scholarship will support and inspire recipients to look to the horizon, aspire and achieve, and serve their whānau, hapū, Iwi and Māori.
